Physical Education

Aims

The aim of Physical Education is to help students to recognise the importance of an active healthy lifestyle so that they value physical activity throughout school and adult life. We offer some students the opportunity to go into the world of sport through work placements, training activities and specialised career guidance.

What you will study

At Key Stage 3, students will experience invasion sports (team and individual disciplines), striking and fielding, net/wall sports, accurate replication, exercising safely modules, and outdoor adventurous activities.

All Key Stage 4 students have access to core PE taught through a range of sport education modules which look at the bigger picture of sport and the roles within the industry. Some students are also guided on the GCSE pathway. GCSE students follow the Edexcel course which is 60% practical and 40% theory.

Clubs

The PE Department offers a variety of extra-curricular opportunities which are adapted in accordance with the sporting season. We have close links with all local clubs including a football academy run by Sheffield Wednesday Football Club coaches. The Rugby Football Union also invests in the Academy and we have very close links the East Retford Rugby Club. Our state-of-the-art fitness suite is open at lunchtimes and after school for students to use. We also offer a full range of sporting activities, both indoor and outdoor, for students to compete in as individuals or part of a team.
